Analyzing Not Just Aggregating

Yesterday, Slate unveiled The Slatest, a thrice-daily recap of a day’s news cycles. The new site is replacing Slate’s ‘Today’s Papers’, a once-a-day summary of national news that was one of the Web’s first aggregators.
The Slatest joins a group of other web aggregators including Newser, The Daily Beast and The Stimulist. These sites claim to filter and curate the news - promising the reader that they will only consume the most important news nuggets during their busy day.
Each web aggregator describes their value proposition a bit differently.  The Slatest’s describes itself as ‘The most important news and commentary to read right now,’ The Daily Beast offers ‘Curated news aggregation,’ Newser invites viewers to ‘Read less, know more,’ and The Stimulist offers ‘A daily brief for the (curious) optimist.’
None of these sites analyzes a variety of video and text reports and point out the key differences in reporting. And all of these sites are text based - not offering online video, which is increasingly what Web viewers are looking for. Only Newsy.com analyzes the news, it doesn’t just aggregate it.

Innovation Furthers

At Newsy, we take innovation seriously. From story suggestions to video production improvements, we are constantly making changes - many of them based on ideas sent to us from our viewers. In the past couple of months, we’ve tried out new anchors, new graphical elements and new story-telling formats … and we’re just getting started.

Last week, we started to deliver our content via a CDN, which offers users faster download speeds and fewer viewing interruptions.

Luckily improvements are not going unnoticed. As I pointed out in my last post, bloggers are embedding Newsy videos at a regular clip. And our videos are the subjects of Tweets on a daily basis.

You can look forward to more innovations in our content when our new VP of editorial starts next month.

Bloggers Love Newsy.com

For the past couple of months, we’ve focused on innovating our content - offering not just a site that aggregates but truly analyzes the key nuances in reporting from media outlets around the world. This difference makes us unique in the online video news space - we’re the only one.
We’ve been rewarded for our efforts - there’s been a sharp increase in the amount of bloggers who are embedding our videos into their sites.
Puppetgov.com is now featuring Newsy videos a few times a week in its ‘Video News‘ section. In fact, all types of bloggers are embedding a wide variety of our videos - from politics to technology to health to new media.
We’re pleased that so many bloggers are choosing to augment their content with Newsy videos. It’s a win-win situation - for Newsy, the benefit is distribution - driving traffic and building brand awareness for our site.

Newsy.com is a Fave!

For all of last week, Newsy was featured as a ‘Weekly Fave’ on the site AllMyFaves.com (see image below).

Newsy was hand-picked by AllMyFaves, which is described as a site that provides nothing but the absolute best of what the web has to offer.

AllMyFaves, a “discovery” site, is an easy way to navigate the Web and an alternative to search. The site is a visual directory of the Web’s most popular sites - each site is represented by a brand logo and falls under one of 11 categories - the Newsy logo is in the upper left corner.

Judging from the amount of bloggers who are embedding Newsy videos, Newsy is clearing becoming a fave of many people. I’ll blog more about that later this week. Stay tuned …
